With the nearest car access (the car park) and some of the best surf in Cornwall beyond sand dunes. it is inevitable wear of the dune would quickly occur. Hence the construction of the boardwalk.

The local land managers "National Trust UK" aim to save guard the environment and its beauty. They achieve this by managing how and where pedestrians can go and traverse the delicate sand dunes. In doing so they constructed boarded walkways over the sand.
The Boardwalk is also used by hikers, as an option for this section of the South West Coast Path (Dependant on the tides, hikers could traverse the Beach of follow the road).
