This concrete monument is shaped like a atypical beryl crystal. It seems to have been placed at the centenary of the original journey by Hamilton Hume and William Hilton Hovell (and six servant convicts) in late 1824. Over thirty monuments were placed along the route of their exploration in 1924. They left Appin (south of Sydney) on 3 October 1824, and arrived at Corio Bay (near Geelong, southwest of Melbourne) in Victoria. They discovered major rivers (hitherto unknown), and drew attention to grazing lands that would be vital to the growth of the colony, and specifically the colonisation of Victoria.
This monument is outside what are now the 'Two Churches' Bed and Breakfast.
