Originally organized as an informal group of actors and entertainers in 1868 in New York, the Elks have grown into a large organization, with lodges in every state. They were chartered as the Benovolent and Protective Order of Elks (B.P.O.E.) in 1871. They do many forms of community activity, depending on the needs in each lodge area: Scholarships, memorials, local financial backing, veterans services, assistance in children's projects, education, etc.

The Sapulpa Lodge was established in 1907. Their lodge headquarters is a beautiful two-story dark brick building with four columns on the porch. There is a concrete block water table, and double hung windows set individually and in triplets. Above the main entrance, the letters B P O E are engraved, and above that on a triangular pediment, the emblem of the Elks is embossed. A sculpture of an elk stands on the front lawn.

The Sapulpa Lodge meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, except in July and August, when they meet only on the 1st Wednesday. They have many activities, including fish fries, dinner, music events and an annual car show.
