De beeltenis van De Plaggenhouwer verwijst naar het verleden van de Grubbenvorstenaren als ‘plaggenhouwers’. Het hele gebied tussen Grubbenvorst en Sevenum is rond 1920/1930 volledig ontgonnen. Alle aanwezige heide werd afgestoken om plaats te maken voor voornamelijk bosbouw. Het hout uit de dennenbossen werd gebruikt in de mijnen in Zuid-Limburg als stutpalen.

De carnavalsvereniging van Grubbenvorst draagt de naam ‘De Plaggenhouwers’. In Grubbenvorst wordt uitbundig Gekke Maondaag gevierd en niet het meer bekende carnaval. Daarom heet de vereniging officieel: Gekke Maondaagsvereiniging De Plaggenhouwers.

The image of De Plaggenhouwer refers to the past of the Grubben prince's as "plaggers". The entire area between Grubbenvorst and Sevenum was fully reclaimed around 1920/1930. All the heather present was cut off to make way for mainly forestry. The wood from the pine forests was used in the mines in South Limburg as support posts.

The carnival association of Grubbenvorst bears the name "De Plaggenhouwers". In Grubbenvorst, crazy Crazy Monday is celebrated and not the more famous carnival. That is why the association is officially called: Crazy Maunday Association De Plaggenhouwers.
