Highlands Hammock Memorial Boardwalk - Sebring, Florida, USA - Eagle Scout Project Sites on Waymarking.com

During the later part of 2005 to early 2006 Jarrett Singley gave leadership to the construction of a boardwalk at Highlands Hammock State Park. He worked in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Friends of Highlands Hammock State Park, Florida State Park staff and Boy Scouts of America to complete this project.

The purpose of this project was to build a wooden boardwalk that would go through a low wet area leading from the overflow parking area and campground to the Family Picnic Area where various special events were being held and to the CCC museum and Hammock Inn concession area. In the past, visitors, guests, and event attendees would walk to the these areas by walking down the paved road. This was a major safety hazard to pedestrians. A special walkway was designed and built so pedestrians could travel from the parking/campground areas to the event area safely.

Today the boardwalk has become a memorial boardwalk with opportunities for people to purchase dedicated plaques for placing on the boardwalk.
