Sébastien Loeb, born February 26, 1974 in Haguenau (Bas-Rhin), is a French rally driver converted in circuit racing at first, then rally-raid and rallycross more recently. Engaged under the colors of Citroën Racing, he won with his co-driver Daniel Elena the world rally championship nine times consecutively from 2004 to 2012 after ten full seasons. Holder in his time of most of the records of the discipline, acquired during a period where the regulation imposed penalizing orders of passage to the world number one, he is the most titled driver of motor sport, the first to be imposed in three different FIA world championships, and considered by many observers and specialists as the greatest rally driver of all time. Winner of international competitions in GT and Tourism, X Games gold medal winner, three-time Champions Champion and Pikes Peak Hill Climb Record winner, he is also one of the most more complete.
Coming from a modest background, Sébastien Loeb was destined for a career as an electrician when he tried his luck through the FFSA detection channel with the Operation Volant Rallye Jeunes. Noticed by Dominique Heintz and Rémi Mammosser, he began an amateur career thanks to the support of his patrons and won the Trophée Citroën Saxo Kit Car and the national title on earth. Engaged by Citroën Sport in 2001 in view of his promising results, he won the same year the title of champion of France and wins in the new junior world championship by winning all rounds of the calendar.
He signed his first world premiere victory the following year during the rally in Germany before being made full-time in the WRC championship in 2003 alongside Carlos Sainz and Colin McRae. Vice-world champion at the end of the season, he dominates his two more experienced teammates and fails at one point of the title. While on the rise, he won nine consecutive titles from 2004 until his gradual retirement at the end of 2012, during which time he became the first driver to win on all the classic rallies of the calendar and on the six different surfaces of the WRC, as well as the first non-Nordic to win the Swedish Rally and several times the Rally Finland.
Nine times champion of the world, he retired from the discipline in 2013 without being a candidate for his succession before starting a reconversion with success in the competitions on circuit, first in FIA GT Series then in WTCC while pursuing his collaboration with Citroën Racing. It ends prematurely at the end of the 2015 season after fifteen years of common history, initiating consequently the transfer of the Alsatian within the programs of rally-raid and rallycross carried by the stable sister Peugeot Sport. He takes part in the Dakar rally and the world rallycross championship.
In 2018, he made his return to the WRC by competing in three Citroën rallies and won the Rally of Catalonia. He then leaves the bosom of the PSA group to engage with Hyundai to compete in several rallies in 2019 and 2020.
