Edzell is a large village in the northern part of the county of Angus, near the foothills of the Grampian Mountains in eastern Scotland. The B966 road runs straight northwards through the village, and on the north edge of the village on the east side of the road can be found the Boer War Memorial.
It is a freestanding structure made of granite in the style of a celtic cross on a tapering shaft above a plinth and base. It is surrounded by railings and set within a gravel surround. The cross is set off by knot work and the inscription on the plinth reads as follows:
'TO THE MEMORY OF GALLANT SOLDIERS BELONGING TO EDZELL & DISTRICT WHO FELL IN THE GREAT BOER WAR 1899-1900-1901-1902
"DECORUM EST PRO PATRIA MORI"'
The memorial is easily visited from the large car park and picnic area of Edzell Muir which lies across the road.
