The 311 N Bench Street portion of the building is the headquarters of the Galena Police Department. The department has been led since 2012 by Lori Huntington.

The Galena Police Department is dedicated to the protection and security of all citizens and, in partnership with the community, to providing quality public safety services while affording dignity and respect to every individual.

The Galena Police Department will be a totally integrated Community Oriented Policing Agency committed to a partnership with our citizens. All members of the department will strive for high performance and continuous growth in a value driven organization.

The building that houses the Police Department is an historical one - part of the Galena Historic District.

Architectural Description: This is a 2-story multipurpose public building built ca. 1920. The foundation is poured concrete. Exterior walls are poured concrete; ornamental concrete block;. The building has a flat roof. Windows are original wood 6 light double hung; wooden and aluminum storms. Doors are original wood; glass glazed; recessed entry with transom.

I have had NO problems with taking photos of Police stations but please respect the fact that some services may be nervous about having their photo taken and inquire as to why... I have found that once things are explained they are more than happy to let me photograph the building, crest, chief... (they are people too!)
