In de herfst van 1944 werden in de streek tussen Maas en Peel ruim 3000 jongens en mannen bij razzia's door de nazi's opgepakt en voor dwangarbeid gedeporteerd naar Duitsland. Deze gebeurtenissen kostten 120 mannen het leven en veroorzaakten een blijvende wond bij de overlevenden en bij hen die thuis achterbleven.

Uit Helenaveen werden 143 personen gedeporteerd. Van hen overleefden 26 mannen de oorlog niet.

In the fall of 1944, more than 3000 boys and men were arrested by the Nazis in raids between Maas and Peel and deported to Germany for forced labor. These events cost 120 men their lives and caused a lasting wound to the survivors and those left at home.

143 people were deported from Helenaveen. Of them, 26 men did not survive the war.
