Archives show that John Langmaid has built, around 1815, the Stagecoach House, first hotel used by coaches passing by. Langmaid built his own house in this hotel a few years later. He lived there for many years.

Carleton Ayer established the first Post Office in 1864, which was part of the hotel until 1884. In 1897, The Ayer family sold the property where Ayer's Cliff Inn is located today to Mr. Llewellyn Trussell. It is presumed that an hotel formerly known as The Cliff House had been rebuilt after a fire. Since then, the hotel has had several owners.

On July 22, 1956, the young Coulombe family arrived in Ayer's Cliff. Already owners of an hotel in West Shefford (Bromont), they bought the New Cliff House as soon as they could. For all those years when they were the owners, they took special care of the hotel to preserve its original look.
