The Poste of Stone is a Wetherspoons pub located in the building that was the former Post Office in the tiny Granville Square, where the town pump once stood. It was actually called Pump Square until 1903 when the splendid plane tree replaced the pump to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII.
Stone had its own postmaster as early as 1575, when the official in question was William Nicholson, described as ‘The Poste of Stone’.

"The Poste of Stone is a large open plan Wetherspoons pub which opened in 2002, the building was previously the town's Post Office. It is on the periphery of the shopping area and a short walk from the Trent & Mersey Cannal. There is a bus stop outside. Food is served all day every day. The pub stocks a wide range of regularly changing real ales including locally produced Lymestone, Slaters, Blythe Brewery and Salopian beers. This pub also has its own beer 'Poste of Stone' brewed by Lymestone which is only available at this branch and can be found on sale throughout the year." Source: (
