An old wine press was set up at Pfaffstätten train station. A sign provides the following information:
Large screw press, ca. 1930
This screw press with wooden basket and hydraulic pressing head was once installed in the house Badener Straße 47 (family Denk) and was in use from 1968 to 2011 in the winery Erich und Anni Fuchs (Hauptstraße 2a). In one operation, up to 280 kilograms of grapes could be processed.
In 2011, the press was donated to the municipality of Pfaffstätten.
On behalf of the market town of Pfaffstätten and according to the ideas and plans of the architect Johannes Mayer, the press - in coordination with the Austrian Federal Railways as land owners - found a new home here on the station forecourt in 2015/2016.
The floor space was lowered compared to the terrain - a conceptual bridge to the wine cellars, which used to be lowered flat in Pfaffstätten.
The light steel construction with sail serves as weather protection and is an association with the "arbors", which are also customary in the region. The supporting heavy "boulders" originate from old locks of the Wiener Neustädter Canal, the former waterway running through Pfaffstätten.
Some seats were installed around the press. Therefore this shady place is especially popular on hot summer days.
