Washington Convention Center is a 2,300,000-square-foot (210,000 m2) convention center located in Washington, D.C., owned and operated by the city's convention arm, Events DC. Designed in a joint venture by the Atlanta-based architecture firm Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates, Washington, DC- based architects Devrouax & Purnell Architects Planners PC and Mariani and Associates, the convention center is located in a superblock bounded by Mount Vernon Square and 7th, 9th and N streets, N.W. It is served by the Mount Vernon Square station on the Yellow and Green lines of the Washington Metro. It was completed in 2003."

Taken from Wikipedia, "Walter Edward Washington (April 15, 1915 – October 27, 2003) was an American civil servant and politician. He was chief executive of Washington, D.C. from 1967 to 1979, serving as the first and only Mayor-Commissioner from 1967 to 1974 and as the first home-rule mayor of the District of Columbia from 1974 to 1979.
After a career in public housing in Washington, DC and New York City, he was appointed as mayor-commissioner of Washington, D.C. in 1967. He was the last mayor of Washington to be appointed by the President.
Congress had passed a law granting home rule to the capital, while reserving some authorities. Washington won the first mayoral election in 1974, and served until 1979."
