Der bekannte Autor Theodor Fontane wurde in diesem Haus geboren. Theodor Fontane war fest mit der Mark Brandenburg verwurzelt und seine Erzählungen spielten fast ausschließlich in der Mark Brandenburg oder dem Raum um Berlin. Zu seinen bekanntesten Werken zählt die Erzählung "Effi Briest" und die Ballade "Herr von Ribbeck auf Ribbeck im Havelland".
Fontanes Eltern betrieben eine Apotheke und auch ihr Sohn Theodor wurde Apotheker bevor er sich im Jahr 1949 entschloss sein Leben ganz der Literatur zu widmen und Schriftsteller wurde.
Theodor Fontane starb am 20. September 1898 in Berlin.

Theodor Fontane was firmly rooted in the Mark Brandenburg and his stories took place almost exclusively in the Mark Brandenburg or the area around Berlin. His best-known works include the story "Effi Briest" and the ballad "Herr von Ribbeck auf Ribbeck im Havelland".
Fontane's parents ran a pharmacy and their son Theodor also became a pharmacist before he decided in 1949 to devote his life entirely to literature and became a writer.
Theodor Fontane died in Berlin on September 20, 1898.
