The Weilburger Schifffahrtstunnel is the oldest and longest navigable ship tunnel in Germany today. It crosses over a length of 195 meters the Mühlberg, on which the city of Weilburg is located, from north to south, thus avoiding a two-kilometer-long arch of the Lahn with two weirs. The tunnel was built between 1844 and 1847 and today forms, together with the parallel road and rail tunnels, the so-called Weilburg tunnel ensemble.
