The grave of Walter Camp is marked by both a headstone and a polished black granite memorial placed by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. The granite headstone has a semicircular top with a ringed cross and pilasters on each side. The monument is inscribed:

WALTER CAMP
1859 - 1923
AND HIS WIFE
ALICE SUMMER
-1934-

The memorial at the foot of the grave contains the laser etched image of Walter Camp and his signature and the following inscription:

WALTER CAMP
"THE FATHER OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL"

WALTER CAMP OUTSTANDING YALE ATHLETE AND COACH BECAME
THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FIGURE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF
AMERICAN FOOTBALL. RECOGNIZED AS THE PRIMARY AUTHORITY
ON FOOTBALL RULES IN HIS LIFETIME. HE WAS A SUCCESSFUL
BUSINESSMAN, DEDICATED FAMILY MAN, AND PROMINENT NEW
HAVEN CIVIC LADER. HE SELECTED HIS FIRST ALL-AMERICAN
TEAM IN 1889. A TRADITION WE ARE PROUD TO CONTINUE TODAY.

Walter Camp was an outstanding tackle and coach at Yale University. He wrote the rules for U.S. College Football in 1880, which are the basis for the modern game of American football today. Among his many innovations, he created the line of scrimmage, the snap back from the center, the points system, the two point safety, and the system of downs all of which are still an integral part of the game.

He was also a prolific writer with more than 250 magazine articles. According to the Biblio website Link, he also wrote the following books.
