At the top of the facade of the old courthouse, the year of construction is engraved in a freestone slab. It is the year 1907. The building was used as a court until 2002. Now it is a home for someone who also has a home office.
The small city Groenlo (in the eastern parts of the Netherlands) had a courthouse from 1834 until 2002.
In 1907 the decision was made that Groenlo needed a new courthouse. The Dutch Government financed this building. The architect was W.C. Metzelaar. He designed all the courthouses in the Netherlands at that time.
The building is in a good condition and completely original. Nothing may be altered as it is a National Dutch monument.
Year of construction: 1907
Full inscription: There is another freestone plate, which shows the word "Kantongerecht". This means in the Dutch language Courthouse.
