A portion of Abraham Lincoln's famed Gettysburg Address, part of the permanent bronze marker affixed to Margate City's Great War Memorial in the central area of the city.
Of note, is the omission of the first part of that passage: " that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain", but only the more generic second part:
"That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
the marker was erected and dedicated by Margate City council after the end of the Great War.
