The two-storey building was renovated some 25 years ago, per the 'silver' plaque, and brown tablet, and now houses the 'Op Shop' and the Branch tea rooms. Below the typical [Australian] Red Cross Society circular logo is a laquered aluminium shield-shaped plaque, which has been engraved with the following inscription (tho it has corroded, and rather hard to transcribe!):

In Appreciation
to all who contributed
in the restoration of the
Bega Red Cross Building
~ ~ ~ from ~ ~ ~
NSW Divisional Executive Committee
16-11-92

While the brown-painted sign below the insignia and shield-shaped plaque has the following text:

The renovations to this building
were commenced April 1992,
and officially re-opened on
16th November, 1992.

Funding for this project was by generous donations from
The Dept. of Planning - Heritage Branch,
Australian Red Cross Society,
& the efforts of the members of
Australian Red Cross Society - Bega Branch

The Red Cross Society has been represented in Bega for more than a hundred years, as they celebrated the centenary in 2014: Centenary. On 25 August, 1914 the Bega Mayoress convened ar meeting and established the Bega Red Cross League, that went on to raise hundreds of pounds to be sent to aid wounded soldiers.

In 1937 this building was bought for £1,700 (which was paid off in 17 years). The Red Cross ladies excelled in World War Two, and had lists of blood donors posted near the Commercial Hotel.
These days the volunteers raise moneys by serving lunches at the sale yards.
