[GER] Das Kontorhaus wurde 1911 nach Plänen von Leon Frejtag und Erich Elingius erbaut. Das Nachbarhaus mit der Nummer 15 wurde 1906 erbaut.
Das Ensemble dokumentiert eine der fortschrittlichsten Lösungen im Hamburger Kontorhausbau vor den 1. Weltkrieg: Die Vertikalgliederung der Fassade gibt die Außenwandpfeiler-Architektur sichtbaren Ausdruck; die Oberflächen sind durch farbig, irisierende Keramik (grés flammée) verkleidet, die um 1905 von den Architekten Hermann Wurzbach in Hamburg eingeführt wurde; Reliefmotive weisen auf Hamburg, Handel und Seefahrt hin.
Das Hamburg-Wappen befindet sich am rechten grün verklinkertem Haus Nummer 21 im mittleren Bereich zwischen erstem und zweitem Geschoß.
[ENG] The Kontorhaus was built in 1911 according to plans by Leon Frejtag and Erich Elingius. The neighbouring house with the number 15 was built in 1906.
The ensemble documents one of the most progressive solutions in Hamburg's Kontorhaus construction before the First World War: the vertical structure of the façade gives visible expression to the exterior wall pillar architecture; the surfaces are clad with coloured, iridescent ceramic (grés flammée), which was introduced to Hamburg around 1905 by the architects Hermann Wurzbach; relief motifs refer to Hamburg, trade and seafaring.
The Hamburg coat of arms is located on the right side of house number 21 with green clinker bricks in the middle between the first and second floors.
