Biddle Furnace went into blast on Christmas day 1825. The venture was not successful, and the furnace changed hands several times before it went out of blast permanently in 1855. A little of each side is standing and much slag still abounds. Sometimes referred to as "Rock" Furnace, a huge rock overhangs the road beside the furnace.
Furnace remains can be found off the Roaring Run Trail in Apollo, PA. Park at the trail head using N 40.33836 W 079 33.572 to start a scenic hike in to the site.
