In Cody, Wyoming pretty much everyone else has jumped on the "Buffalo" bandwagon, with buffalo murals and statues and sculptures everywhere. Given that the town is the namesake of Buffalo Bill Cody, we suppose this is to be expected. The Big Bear Motel has chosen to go a different route, capitalizing on their name with a couple of bear statues, one fierce looking one near the highway and this slightly more docile appearing bear further back from the road, beside the kiddies' playground. The size of a large grizzly, this guy stands at least eight feet tall. He appears to have been carved from a section of a dead tree, likely pine, the short stump of which the bear stands on.
The carved signature on the bear reveals that it was the work of Michael Orr, carved for the Big Bear Motel on October 31, 2009.
