Translated from the above noted text:

The tithe barn of Sainte-Flavie, witness of the seigneurial times in New France, was built around 1857 (the lordships had just been abolished, but the tithe was still paid at the parish). Today, there is a Tithing Interpretation Center that traces the traditions and administrative structure of the past in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, which occupies part of the Gaspé Peninsula.

Tithing was a tax in kind. The censitaires paid it to the lord or the priest, which allowed him to keep his strength to watch over the souls of his parishioners. The annual tithe was the twenty-sixth millot of grain harvested. A minot was a bag that weighed 30 to 60 pounds. The tithe barn was used to store the grain.

In this building is also the Museum of Paleontology.

This museum reveals fossils 420 million years old, mainly from the Silurian period. These are trilobites, brachiopods, cephalopods and other fascinating body prints.

There are also specimens from chalky soils corresponding to the geological phase of the end of the secondary era, as well as samples from more modern times. The museum features dinosaur bones, sections of fossilized trees, plants transformed into stones and fragments of animals.

The Museum of Paleontology also holds 400 specimens of minerals.

Next to it, the old presbytery of Sainte-Flavie houses an art gallery. The beautiful Jardins de Métis are located about 10 kilometers away.
