The Hem Heath is a Hungry Horse pub located in Trentham on land that was the site of the Hem Heath Colliery.

The pillory pub sign depicts a mole emerging from the ground wearing a miners a pit helmet and holding a pickaxe. The pub name is written at the bottom of the sign in white lettering. A fitting memory for the mining carried out at this location.

"Hem Heath was the first Greene King newly built Hungry Horse pub located in Trentham at the top of Stanley Matthews Way on the land where Hem Heath Colliery used to stand, hence the pub name." (visit link)

The Hem Heath is a large, modern, new-build pub on the edge of the Trentham Lakes Industrial Park. It was opened in April 2012 by Greene King as a Hungry Horse operation, the vast majority of the pub is dedicated to the food trade. Named after the famous local colliery, the history of the site can be found adorning the walls, and there is a cinema screen to the far left of the pub showing a variety of films. A report written about the Hem Heath by Dave Knapper appeared in The Sentinel on 29th August 2017.
The report reads as follows;
"Take a look around the new-look Hem Heath pub after £250k overhaul - but don't worry the meal deals haven't changed!
Work has included creating an over-18s area, revamping the outside and installing new seating.

A popular family-friend pub known for its meal deals and lively atmosphere is back open following a £250,000 makeover.
The Hem Heath Hungry Horse, in Trentham, closed for two weeks while the refurbishment was carried out.

Work has included installing new seating and flooring throughout and revamping the outside with the old play area replaced with a landscaped garden.
Other changes have included creating a designated area for over-18s with six 70in televisions for football fans and there are two other large TVs elsewhere.

And while the pub looks different, general manager Mat Cartwright is promising customers the menu has remained the same with the deals and offers continuing.

The 29-year-old, who took over the Trentham Road pub three years ago, said: “I am over the moon with the refurbishment – it’s made a massive difference.
“It’s the type of pub where couples can come and families with children as we have something for everyone.
“We’ve removed the children’s game machines because parents were feeling hassled by their kids wanting to play on them."
Mat, who was brought up in Bentilee, first started in the pub industry as a 16-year-old where he waited on tables at The Ashbank in Werrington before he worked his way up to manager.

Following spells in charge at Longton’s Old Sal and the Horn and Trumpet, off Leek New Road near Norton Heights, Mat arrived at the Hem Heath.
He said: “I wanted to make it more of a community pub. I make sure I get to know the customers and encourage my staff to do the same.
“We get a lot of really good feedback about the food and the service we provide.”

The ribbon was cut at the Greene King-owned pub on Sunday by Stoke-on-Trent Lord Mayor Councillor Ross Irving, who was also given a tour of the new-look pub.
He said: “It looks very impressive. It comes at a time when the feeling is that this is a city on the up and businesses want to invest here.”
Staff have also been pleased with the new-look and say customers are impressed.
Tracy Wood has been a team member at the pub for the last 16 months.
The 50-year-old, of Bentilee, said: “I think it is brilliant and I like everything about the makeover. It’s a really nice place to work and we have some lovely customers.”
Among the customers visiting on Sunday was Linda Manning, of Blurton.
She said: “I have been coming here since it opened. I think it needed the refurbishment, it looks really good.”
