The marker, affixed to a large granite boulder, is located in the Chestnut Neck Historic Park off US 9 near Port Republic. It lists the boats and their captains who sailed in support of American Independence between 1776 and 1783.

There are 34 captains and 32 boats listed.

The marker was erected by the Colonel Richard Somers Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. Marker text reads:
