The bench is situated on the tow path of the Trent and Mersey canal near bridge 103 and adjacent to the Plume of Feathers carpark.

The wooden bench is in a worn condition and has a slatted back and seat with arm rests.

The plaque situated on the back of the bench is hard to read but is inscribed as follows:-

'RAYMOND WILLIAMS 1921-1988
Writer University Teacher WEA Tutor
Remembered with affection and respected by
generations of students and readers'

"Barlaston is a village and civil parish in the borough of Stafford in the county of Staffordshire, England. It is roughly halfway between the city of Stoke-on-Trent and the small town of Stone" (visit link)
