Flora and fauna information board at Sulby Hedges, Sibbertoft. The location is Dragonfly Pond, a small depression near the Sulby Hedges viewpoint on the Naseby Battlefield Trail.
"In dry periods the water level in the Dragonfly Pond will go down, and at times the pond may even become completely dry. This area can be described as an ‘intermittent pond'. Such areas are still valuable for wildlife. Some dragonfly nymphs and invertebrate larvae can burrow down into the mud as the pond dries up, and they may be able to survive to re-emerge when the water returns. Around the margin of the pond area you can see various plants which are typical of marshy ground, such as a sedge (Glaucous Sedge [Carcx flacca)], rushes [Jointed Rush (Juncus articulatus), Soft-rush (J. effusus), Compact Rush (J. conglomeratus)] and a grass (Marsh Foxtail Grass [Alopecurus genicularus)].
These oceur much less frequently in other areas."
