The Steelworkers monument, consisting of an I-Beam being raised by a steelworker, sits as the centrepiece of the Steelworkers Memorial Park, not far from the foundry where Bethlehem steel was produced for over 100 years.
The courtyard area is liberally covered in paving stones, many memorializing workers who died while at work.
The article looks at efforts to declare the entire park a memorial after street vendors used the park (with permits) for a chili festival.
Many local residents consider the area akin to "sacred ground" and feel the area should be reserved for quiet reflection vice being used for more secular uses.
