Herr Josef Natterer erstellte eine große Anzahl von Fotografien der Stadt Wangen welche zu Postkarten verarbeitet wurden.
Die Eselsmühle oder Stadtmühle gelegen am Eselsberg ist eines dieser Motive.

Nachfolgend die Geschichte der Mühle.
Die Esel- oder Stadtmühle stammt aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Zunächst gehörte sie dem benachbarten Spital. Erst 1824 ging die Mühle an den Müller Benedikt Halder über. Seit 1937 ruht der Mahlbetrieb. Die Stadt Wangen kaufte schließlich das Gebäude und zeigt dort seit 1978 Schätze aus ihrer Vergangenheit. Das Heimatmuseum, das Museum für „Mechanische Musikinstrumente“ und das Käsereimuseum präsentieren interessante Stücke. Über den Wehrgang, der einen hübschen Blick in die Altstadt freigibt, gelangen die Besucher zu den literarischen Museen und Archiven der Schriftsteller Joseph Freiherr von Eichendorff und Gustav Freytag. Durch den Pulverturm geht es zu Badstube und in die städtische Galerie "In der Badstube“. Ein Blick durch den Durchgang beim Museumscafé zeigt Eichendorffs Taugenichts, wie er mit seiner Geige in der Hand die Stadt verlässt, um in die große freie Welt hinauszuziehen. An der Stadtmauer, links von der Eingangstüre zum Café, erinnert eine Büste an den großen schlesischen Dichter und Romantiker.

The donkey mill or city mill located on the donkey mountain is one of these motifs.
