« Le 25 avril 1014, il y a 800 ans, naissait à Poissy Louis IX, plus connu sous le nom de Saint Louis.

Louis IX ou saint Louis est un roi de France du Moyen Âge. Né à Poissy en 1214, il décède à Tunis en 1270. Il est le fils de Louis VIII et de Blanche de Castille. Il a régné de 1226 à 1270.

Pendant sa minorité, sa mère, régente doit faire face à une révolte des grands seigneurs. Devenu adulte, le roi cherche l’accord avec ses voisins et les grands seigneurs (en particulier le roi d’Angleterre) afin d’éviter les guerres pour des questions de vassalité. Louis IX impose sa monnaie, ses lois et sa justice dans le royaume. Chrétien très croyant il participe à deux croisades (en Égypte et à Tunis). Sa renommée fait de lui une sorte d’arbitre en Europe chrétienne. L’Église catholique le canonise en 1297, il devient alors le roi saint Louis. »

Louis IX or Saint Louis is a king of France in the Middle Ages. Born in Poissy in 1214, he died in Tunis in 1270. He is the son of Louis VIII and Blanche of Castile. He ruled from 1226 to 1270.

During his minority, his mother, regent must face a revolt of the great lords. As an adult, the king seeks agreement with his neighbors and the great lords (especially the King of England) to avoid wars for vassalage. Louis IX imposed his currency, his laws and his justice in the kingdom. Christian very believer he participates in two crusades (in Egypt and Tunis).
