Œuvre : Kamouraska mon amour a été sculptée sur place près de l’ancien palais de justice. La pierre est un calcaire provenant de Saint-Marc-des-Carrières,(région de Portneuf), et la base est une pierre des champs trouvée à Kamouraska même. Cette œuvre organique est le fruit des nombreuses observations de textures et de l’approche du sculpteur.
Biographie : Né en Angleterre, Jeff (Guv) Watson a été en contact avec la sculpture dès l’école primaire. Il a émigré au Canada, où il a fait carrière en sciences naturelles et en environnement. Il a suivi des cours de sculpture sur pierre au College of Art and Design, en Nouvelle-Écosse, ainsi qu’à l’École d’art d’Ottawa. Il vit maintenant à Longueuil, où se situe son atelier.
Démarche : D’abord chercheur dans le domaine de l’environnement (écologie, géologie, changements globaux), Jeff (Guv) Watson a développé un regard approfondi sur la nature et sur la manière dont l’humain entre en contact avec elle. Ainsi, il s’inspire de l’observation de l’infinie variété des lignes, des volumes, des formes et des textures que la nature présente. Ce qui l’intéresse au plan esthétique, outre la forme sculpturale elle-même, c’est le contraste produit par la juxtaposition de la pierre à l’état brut, avec sa texture naturelle, ses imperfections, ses fractures, à la pierre travaillée et polie par l’homme. Ainsi, l’outil du sculpteur joue pour ainsi dire le même rôle que la nature elle- même : il polit, sable, texture ou laisse tout simplement à l’état brut.

This organic work is the fruit of numerous observations of textures and the approach of the sculptor.
Biography: Born in England, Jeff (Guv) Watson has been in contact with sculpture since elementary school. He emigrated to Canada, where he pursued a career in natural sciences and the environment. He attended stone sculpture classes at the College of Art and Design in Nova Scotia and at the Ottawa School of Art. He now lives in Longueuil, where his studio is located.
Approach: First as a researcher in the field of the environment (ecology, geology, global changes), Jeff (Guv) Watson has developed an in-depth look at the nature and the way humans come in contact with it. Thus, it is inspired by the observation of the infinite variety of lines, volumes, shapes and textures that nature presents. What interests him aesthetically, besides the sculptural form itself, is the contrast produced by the juxtaposition of the stone in its raw state, with its natural texture, its imperfections, its fractures, the worked stone and polite by the man. Thus, the sculptor's tool plays, so to speak, the same role as nature itself: it polishes, sand, texture or simply leaves in the raw state.
