He was born on September 18, 1837 in Southbridge, MA and died on January 15, 1907 His Medal of Honor information and citation is: PUTNAM, WINTHROP D.
• Rank and organization: Corporal, Company A, 77th Illinois Infantry
• Place and date: At Vicksburg, Miss., 22 May 1863
• Entered service at: Peoria, Ill.
• Date of issue: 4 April 1898
Citation: Carried, with others, by hand, a cannon up to and fired it through an embrasure of the enemy's works.
