Playa de Vargas is a beach on the Canary Island of Gran Canaria. The beach is located on a 4 km long bay on the east coast between Arinaga in the south and Carrizal in the north. Politically, Playa de Vargas belongs to the mountain municipality of Agüimes.
During the summer months, the beach is one of the most wind-resistant surf spots in the world and even puts the more famous PWA World Cup spot Pozo Izquierdo further south in the shade. Until 2004 the PWA World Cup was also hosted here at Easter. The beach consists of large, black, round stones, but quickly becomes sandy, so that at low tide it is even possible to enter via sand. Due to the exceptionally strong wind and the high surf on strong days, Playa de Vargas is only recommended for experienced windsurfers. Near the beach, the northeast trade wind often comes gusty through the windward mountain.
