the historical town of Weimar gained world fame in the late 18th and early 19th century, when Duke Ernest Augustus invited German artists, most notably poets Goethe and Schiller to his court. In 1998, the classical buildings of the town became an UNESCO World Heritage site.
Main belt asteroid 3539 Weimar is named after the tow. The asteroid was discovered on April 11, 1967 by German astronomer Freimut Börngen and named after the town. |
