This entire area has wonderful views in all directions. We love landscapes, especially with long views. This one fits the bill nicely. My wife was very disappointed when she tried to hike to a mountain view point in the Cascades. Too tired from years of cancer treatments she could not make the climb. So, we went for this easy one.

The coordinates take you to a parking place. You have another half mile hike from there to the summit. There are views of Wildhorse Lake on the way as well as deserts, mountains, etc. The terrain rating is high since things can change quickly at 9,733 feet. Be prepared for quick changes in weather; bring water and sunscreen (no shade until at the virtual cache location). It was 104 in the desert below and 65 on top when we were there in late August. They also warn of sudden appearances of military aircraft since Steen’s mountain is on their flight path. I suspect snow will close this cache down from October through July. Be careful but have fun. Also, there are no facilities nearby. Nearest ones we found were down in the campgrounds you passed on your way up.
To get credit for this virtual cache you must do one of two things. Either take a picture of yourself up here – that should prove you were here nicely – or e-mail me the name of who made the southern most building and what is the telephone number for them.
