An old church is attested and partly visible but it was destroyed during the wars of religion. Some Romanesque windows and capitals have been preserved and a splendid Gothic vault under the bell tower. It was a collegiate church served by a prior and canons. During the wars of religion, especially in 1566-67, Catholic worship was repeatedly forbidden to Soubise and the church largely destroyed. Towards 1712, the prince of Soubise, Hercule Meriadec de Rohan, rebuilt the church at his expense, the ruins were masked with a classical facade that completed a semicircular nave.

As it was customary in the eighteenth century when the benefactor of a church died, a funerary liter was painted around 1749 on the walls of the nave in tribute to Hercule-Mériadec de Rohan, Prince of Soubise (1669-1749) who had rebuilt at his expense the destroyed church, largely during the wars of religion. On the black background of this liter are the arms of the Rohan, party Gules nine gold twins and Brittany. The shield is surmounted by a ducal crown with the coat of peer. They were degraded probably at The Revolution and rediscovered at the beginning of the 20th century.

Ex Voto de Soubise representing Saint Elme and Saint Clare, was made by a certain Roussel in 1748. The saint is dressed as a bishop and the saint as a nun. above them the Virgin and Child is surmounted by the Holy Spirit and surrounded by cherubs. On the left are two beautiful ships with three decks. Saint Elmo (or Erasmus)

Une église ancienne est attestée et en partie visible mais elle a été détruite pendant les guerres de religion. On en a conservé quelques fenêtres et chapiteaux historiés romans et une splendide voûte gothique sous le clocher. C'était une église collégiale desservie par un prieur et des chanoines. Pendant les guerres de religion, notamment en 1566- 1567, le culte catholique a été à plusieurs reprises interdit à Soubise et l'église en grande partie détruite. Vers 1712, le prince de Soubise, Hercule Mériadec de Rohan, réédifia l'église à ses frais, on masqua les ruines avec une façade classique qui achevait une nef en plein cintre.

Comme il était d'usage au XVIIIe siècle quand le bienfaiteur d'une église mourait, une litre funéraire fut peinte vers 1749 sur les murs de la nef en hommage à Hercule-Mériadec de Rohan, Prince de Soubise (1669-1749) qui avait fait reconstruire à ses frais l'église détruite, en grande partie, pendant les guerres de religion . Sur le fond noir de cette litre se trouvent les armes des Rohan, parti de gueules à neuf macles d'or et de Bretagne. L'écu est surmonté d'une couronne ducale avec le manteau de pair . Ils ont été dégradés sans doute à La Révolution et redécouvert au début du XXe siècle.

L'Ex Voto de Soubise représentant Saint Elme et Sainte Claire, a été réalisé par un certain Roussel en 1748. Le saint est vêtu en évêque et la sainte en religieuse. au dessus d'eux la Vierge à l'Enfant est surmonté du Saint Esprit et entourée d'angelots. A gauche sont figurés deux beaux vaisseaux à trois ponts. Saint Elme (ou Erasme )
