Three stained glass panels featuring mermaids are displayed inside the public library.
Panel 1 - Guardian of our History: As our town grows, it is vitally important to protect and honor our past. The mermaid is seen looking towards the past, represented by Old Main, while arrowheads in her tail acknowledge those who loved the river and the land before us.
Panel 2 - Muse of the Arts: Essential to the sour of San Marcos is the Arts. The mermaid entwines music through her being while gazing upwards toward rays of color, representative of the vibrancy of our art community.
Panel 3 - Protector of the River: This mermaid is modeled after the Egyptian goddess Serket, the Protector. She holds her arms protectively over the river and the creatures within. Shimmering rays above her represent the crystal clarity of our beloved waters.
