Inside the visitor centre we found a small gaggle of locals sitting around gabbing. We had a fairly lengthy conversation with them about Tonasket and an eclectic collection of other topics. A very friendly crew in this town!

Should you get too deeply involved in conversation while here, don't forget to sign their guest book. They have thoughtfully placed it front and centre, at the corner of the table nearest the entrance, only potentially missed by the truly oblivious.

Nicely landscaped in the front, the centre also has a picnic area at the rear of the parking lot, with a grassed area, picnic tables and a gazebo available for the use of the tourists who should stop in - and we recommend that they do so!

At the very back of the picnic area, on a concrete retaining wall, is a long mural. Centered in the mural is the likeness of a Native American, which we believe to be that of Chief Tonasket of the Okanogan Indians who historically used the present city site for an encampment, and after whom the City of Tonasket was named. The rest of the mural depicts early history of Tonasket, development of which was prompted first by gold mining, then by farming and fruit growing. Later on, forestry became an important industry in the locale. The mural appears to be unsigned, which is unfortunate as it is extremely well done.

Welcome to Tonasket
and the surrounding area

The Tonasket Visitor and Business Resource Center (TVBRC) includes a small park with picnic table and cupola, a bike camp, an art gallery, a kitchen, and a public restroom.

We share our meeting rooms, kitchen, computer with wi-fi, wi-fi connectivity, copier/printer, and telephone with visitors and the local cottage industry.

Our remodeled building has been a private residence, a bus depot, a restaurant, and a real estate office. We are centrally located in town, and within short walking distance to the local library and our many wonderful shops.

Tonasket's friendly merchants and townspeople are always glad to meet new folks. You won’t stay a stranger long!
