The Town of North Kingstown owns and operates the Allen Harbor Marina, which has 85 moorings, 100 slips and a public boat ramp. The marina is open May through October. The boat ramp is open year round and is free of charge. There is no fee for parking.
With a solid coat of gray paint and white trim, this Quonset hut looks to be well-maintained. The structure is oriented along a southwest-to-northeast axis. A steel entry door and an overhead door with three windows are on the southwest end. Both doors are white.
Colorful signs, each about 4' x 8' and framed with brown wood trim, are mounted on either side of the garage bay door. To the left is a panel with a blue oval background. The words "Allen Harbor Marina - North Kingstown, RI" and two, five-pointed stars surround a clipper ship relief. To the right is a board painted with a billowing triangular nautical pennant. The blue flag has a white triangle with the letters A-H-M stenciled in red at the short end. Three seagulls are flying in the background by the pointed end.
FUN FACT:
This Quonset hut is almost exactly one mile due north of the current Quonset Point Naval Air Station/Davisville Naval Construction Battalion Center property -- birthplace of the Quonset Hut! It is also just 2.5 miles from the SeaBee Museum and Memorial Park which has several versions of Quonset Huts on the property.
From the AHM website: In the northeast corner of the former Quonset-Davisville Naval Base is the Allen Harbor Marina, located in a natural sheltered harbor with excellent views of Narragansett Bay. Acquired from the Navy, the Town owns and operates the Marina, that includes 82 moorings, over 100 slips and 3 transient moorings. In addition a boat ramp is available for public use.
