On a humid August morning, you will see a layer of fog rolling down the hillside. You will then know that you are getting close to this cave. Although it's only 30 ft to the back of the cave, this ice cave contains ice all year round. As a youngster, I used to enter the cave and beat on the frozen pool of water with a rock. Usually the rock broke first.
Today the cave entrance has been gated shut due to rocks falling from the cealing. No one is allowed into the cave. But you can still follow the trail up to the cave and enjoy that cold wave coming out of the cave. This preserve has some rare plants growing in it, one is on the National Endangered Species List. Please stay on the trail.
