At first it isn't really noticeable as it sits in front of JB's Fish Camp restaurant but when you do notice the little wooden sign, you will be drawn to this landlocked boat.

The description for this category states that the poster should be creative in coming up with an appropriate entry for the Landlocked Boat category but instead of me being creative, I had to ponder the creativity and the fearlessness of the people who used this flimsy little wooden craft to flee from their native Cuba. Not much more than a rowboat, this particular boat was found a little down shore from the fish camp and was placed in front of their restaurant as a reminder of what some may suffer for their freedom. Just imagine the terror of its occupants as they traveled the five hundred miles through rough seas and probably lacking much food and water and then again, imagine their relief as they finally made land and safety. My hope is that those people have now settled comfortably into a better life than they escaped from and every time I visit JB's, I will remember how easy we have it here.
