"The small city is today divided into two entities, whose center of memory constitutes in a way the link: the old village, preserved in a state of ruin, which bears witness to the suffering inflicted on the inhabitants and people passing through this small town, and the new village, rebuilt a few hundred meters away.

Martyrdom village, occupied on June 10, 1944 by 120 SS soldiers of the division of Reich who massacred the inhabitants (642 victims) and set fire to the church and all the houses.

The law of May 10, 1946 transferred to the State the lands and ruins of the village and decided the classification of this group among the Historical Monuments to testify to the whole world, over time, the destruction accumulated on our territory by four years of oppression and violence. The same law created a new village.

The church where the women and children of the village were killed, as well as the 120 houses, are maintained in their state of ruins. "
