St. Francis Retreat Center near historic San Juan Bautista, California, is a ministry of the Franciscan Friars of the St. Barbara Province. It is open to everybody for day-visits or overnight stays.
Part of the retreat is a network of hiking trails and part of that network is a paved, wheelchair accessible 1.5 miles long path around a dry lake bed along markers displaying all 14 Stations of the Cross.
The stations are depicted on 2x3 ft ceramic tiles in the style of the Della Robbias, created by Friar Luigi Sciocchetti in 1949.
they are placed on brick markers about 1000 ft apart along the trail. The trail starts in the retreat's parking lot and is open to visitors, just go to the nearby gift store and let them now you are there - the only place off limits is the Friary behind station VI.
We invite you to walk along the stations: |
