In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the City Partnership between Berlin's Burrow Wilmersdorf and the Croatian town of Split, a statue of Croatian national poet Marko Marulic was dedicated in front of the Wilmersdorf town hall on May, 27, 2000.

The ten feet tall statue was designed by Croatian sculptor Slavomir Drinkovic.

Marko Marulic (1450-1524) was born in Split, which was then part of the Republic of Venice. He is considered the most important Renaissance poet and Renaissance Humanist of the Adriatic region. Croatia calls him its national poet, and hails him as the Crown of the Croatian Medieval Age and the father of the Croatian Renaissance.

Marulic wrote many poems in Latin and Croatian as well as books discussing theology and Christian ethics.
