Das Hard Rock Café will nicht nur bei Touristen beliebt sein und zieht um. Das Burgerlokal öffnet am Ku’damm – die erste Gitarre hängt schon.
Ins Hard Rock Café gehen ist wie verreisen mit Interrail: unglaublich cool in den Achtzigern und Anfang der Neunziger, als es polyglott und schwer angesagt war, T-Shirts mit dem Hard-Rock-Logo zu sammeln und seinen Burger vor Rockstarsouvenirs zu mampfen, und inzwischen macht es keiner mehr. Na ja, keiner bis auf die Busladung spanischer Schüler, die sich am Merchandising-Stand des Hard Rock Cafés in der Meinekestraße mit Andenken eindecken. Essen wollen sie aber nicht. Drinnen im Restaurant übersteigt die Kellnerzahl deutlich die der Kunden. Hier sitzen ein paar Touristen und einige ergraute Berliner Burgerfreunde, denen sich die Leidenschaft für amerikanische Küche in Form von Jahresringen um die Hüften gelegt hat.
„Mehr Lebensfreude, mehr Lebensfreude!“ mahnen die schwarz gekleideten Kellnerinnen, deren bammelnde Namenschilder lässig aussehen sollen wie Backstage-Pässe. Hier an der Ecke Kurfürstendamm wird zwischen genervten Bauarbeitern der neue Standort des vor 18 Jahren in Berlin eröffneten, ersten deutschen Hard Rock Cafés gezeigt. Bis zum 25. April ist in der schläfrigen Meinekestraße noch holzvertäfelter Rockhöhlendinnerbetrieb unter Rolling-Stones-Autogrammen und The-Who-Postern. Und ab dem 26. soll dann der neue lichte Fensterplatz in der ersten Reihe, am Ku’damm, frischen Wind in die angestaubte Kultmarke bringen. Zur Party zwei Tage später kommt Amy MacDonald. Und von The Cure hängt schon eine Gitarre bei den Toiletten. Auch Will.I.Am von den Black Eyed Peas und Peter Fox haben für das Café ihre Bühnenklamotten ausgezogen.
Teil der weltweit größten Sammlung von Rock- und Popmemorabilia, die die mehr als 70 000 Stücke umfassende Sammlung des weltweit 160 Niederlassungen umfassenden Hard-Rock-Konzerns ist, will auch die örtliche Hip-Hop- Szene sein. Die Jungs von Culcha Candela speisen vor laufenden Kameras einen schönen Strampelanzug ein. Selbst entworfenes Bühnenoutfit sei das, sagt Musiker Reedoo, der auch schon länger keine Hard-Rock-Shirts mehr auf der Straße gesehen hat. Eine Ehre sei es trotzdem, sich hier zu verewigen, findet er. So wie die große Griechin Nana Mouskouri, die bei der Eröffnung 1992 sogar ihre berühmte Brille stiftete, obwohl sie gar keine Rocksongs singt.
Das dollste Rocksouvenir des Erstbesichtigungstages bringt der schick verwitterte Uwe Hassbecker von Silly mit: eine rote Ibanez Roadster, die er seit 1983 besitzt und schon bei Stern Meißen gespielt hat. Noch nie hat er eine Gitarre weggegeben, sagt er, aber nun mache er das für die Ehre. Und dann erzählt er noch, dass Silly 1990 mal im Hard Rock Café in Chicago spielte und dort mit einem Mauerbrocken in Plexiglas verewigt ist. Die balkongesäumten, hellen Räume am Ku’damm gefallen ihm: „Hard Rock abzustauben ist ein Zeichen, dass der Rock’n’Roll nicht tot ist.“
Kleiner hat es auch Rita Gilligan nicht. Die Lady in der mit Hard- Rock-Pins gespickten Schwesterntracht ist die Feelgood-Wuchtbrumme des seit 2006 den Indianern vom geschäftstüchtigen Stamm der Seminolen gehörenden Konzerns. Gilligan hat 1971 vom ersten Tag an im Londoner Café gekellnert, als das von zwei amerikanischen Hippies gegründete Hard Rock Café noch Inbegriff für Klassengrenzen sprengendes, hippes Essen mit den Fingern war und die Beatles, Eric Clapton, die Stones oder Elton John Stammgäste wurden. Ohne Punkt und Komma erzählt Gilligan von Küsschen mit Robbie Williams oder George Michael, von Lady Di, Madonna, dem Lieblingsbier von Paul McCartney, dem Orden, den die Queen ihr verliehen hat, und vor allem von der Hard-Rock- Philosophie, die in blanken Lettern über dem alten wie dem neuen Tresen steht: „Love all, serve all“. Althippieseligkeit und All-American-Gastromaschine in einem."

Well, nobody except the busload of Spanish students who stock up on souvenirs at the merchandising stand of the Hard Rock Café in Meinekestraße. But they don't want food. Inside the restaurant, the number of waiters clearly exceeds that of the customers. Here sit a few tourists and some grey-haired Berlin burger friends who have a passion for American cuisine in the form of annual rings around their hips.
"More joie de vivre, more joie de vivre" remind the waitresses dressed in black, whose jittery name tags are supposed to look casual like backstage passports. Here on the corner of Kurfürstendamm, between annoyed construction workers, the new location of the first German Hard Rock Café opened 18 years ago in Berlin is shown. Until 25 April, the sleepy Meinekestraße is still a wood-panelled rock cave dinner establishment under Rolling Stones autographs and The Who posters. And from the 26th, the new light window seat in the first row, at the Ku'damm, will bring a breath of fresh air into the dusty cult brand. Two days later Amy MacDonald comes to the party. And a guitar from The Cure is already hanging by the toilets. Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas and Peter Fox also took off their stage clothes for the café.
The local hip-hop scene also wants to be part of the world's largest collection of rock and pop memorabilia, which is the more than 70,000-piece collection of the 160-branch hard rock group. The boys from Culcha Candela feed a nice romper suit in front of running cameras. This is a self-designed stage outfit, says musician Reedoo, who hasn't seen any hard rock shirts on the street for quite some time. It's still an honor to immortalize himself here, he says. Like the great Greek Nana Mouskouri, who even donated her famous glasses at the opening in 1992, although she doesn't sing any rock songs at all.
The biggest rock souvenir of the first viewing day is brought along by the chic weathered Uwe Hassbecker from Silly: a red Ibanez Roadster, which he has owned since 1983 and has already played for Stern Meißen. And then he says that Silly played at the Hard Rock Café in Chicago in 1990 and is immortalized there with a piece of wall in Plexiglas. He likes the balcony-lined, bright rooms at the Ku'damm: "Dusting Hard Rock is a sign that Rock'n'Roll isn't dead".
Rita Gilligan is no smaller. The lady in the sister costume studded with hard rock pins is the Feelgood hum of the company, which has belonged to the Indians of the enterprising Seminol tribe since 2006. Gilligan waited at the London Café from day one in 1971, when the Hard Rock Café, founded by two American hippies, was still the epitome of hip, class-breaking food with fingers and the Beatles, Eric Clapton, the Stones and Elton John became regular guests. Without point or comma, Gilligan tells of kisses with Robbie Williams or George Michael, of Lady Di, Madonna, Paul McCartney's favourite beer, the medal awarded her by the Queen, and above all of the hard rock philosophy that is written in blank letters above both the old and the new counter: "Love all, serve all". Old hippie and all-American gas flow machine in one."
