description/mission statement:
The Homemade Tombstone Hunters group has been created to manage the Homemade Tombstones category, which will seek submission of waymarks of handmade tombstones around the world.
Homemade Tombstones
The goal of the Homemade Tombstones category is to waymark those tombstones that were not professionally made. Many are made from non-permanent materials, such as untreated wood, and erode away. Waymarking them is a method of recording their existence.
These grave markers can be very simple or very elaborate. They are sometimes placed out of economic necessity. However, they should not be considered a cheap replacement. They are often very personal tributes and give a great deal of insight into the deceased.
This category would not include roadside memorials such as crosses placed at the site of a fatal accident.
