description/mission statement:
This group will manage a category which will record sites historically important to the Second World War.
This includes everything from armament factories, the development of technology specifically for the war and secret laboratories in the U.S. to sites along the beaches of Normandy to bunkers and casemates all over the world, to battle locations and wherever places were defended from the opposing forces. It also includes former concentration camps, museum exhibits and holocaust memorials.
Excluded are locations of political events, and WWII memorials which are covered as a separate category.
Locations related to the Asian theater can be considered significant only beginning with the Japanese invasion of China on July 7, 1937 and on or before the surrender of Japan on August 14, 1945. Locations related to the European theater can be considered significant only beginning with the German invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939 and ending with the German surrender on May 7, 1945.
