Expanded Description:
Lutheran congregations believe in Lutheranism, a part of Protestant Christianity that was inspired by the acts of Martin Luther (1483-1586), whose efforts to reform the teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic Church unintentionally launched the Protestant Reformation.

"The Lutheran Church is a confessional Christian Church body. Thus, a Lutheran is a person who believes, teaches and confesses the truths of God's Word as they are summarized and confessed in the Lutheran Confessions." Vicar Matt Lorfeld, St. John's Lutheran Church, East Moline, IL

Today, millions of Lutherans around the world worship at Lutheran Churches. This category documents the locations for active and former Lutheran Church buildings.

There are three major Lutheran bodies:
Additional bodies include, but are not limited to: Augsburg Lutheran Churches, Church of the Lutheran Confession, Church of the Lutheran Brethren, American Association of Lutheran Churches, Concordia Lutheran Conference, and the United Lutheran Mission Association.

Many types of Lutheran Churches exist today and a list of Lutheran denominations can be found on Wikipedia at List of Lutheran Denominations.

The Evangelical Church of Germany, or German Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland (EKD), is a federation of 23 Lutheran, Reformed, and United Protestant Churches. This is one example of a Lutheran body in Germany and German-speaking countries. Many Lutheran Churches thrive throughout Germany, however, since Martin Luther was German, these churches are aptly named Evangelische Kirche instead of Lutheran. Evangelische directly translates to "of the Gospel" which places emphasis on the Lutheran belief in sola scriptura (scripture alone).
Instructions for Posting a Lutheran Churches Waymark:
Coordinates must be taken from an accessible location on the outdoor property of the Lutheran Church with a GPS receiver. At least two original photographs are required: an image of the Church building and a clear image of the sign so the words on the sign are legible. (if there is no sign please state this in private note when submitting) Additional photographs are welcome!

The Church must be Lutheran and can be of any Lutheran denomination or body, including Evangelische Kirche. The Church must have its own building for worship and is not sharing the site with another purpose, such as a school auditorium or cultural center that otherwise has no affiliation with the Lutheran congregation.

Please provide as much information as possible. There must be some information written in the Long Description area of the waymark that is unique of the Short Description. Do not include the physical address.

Buildings that are no longer active Lutheran Churches must have photographic or documented support for the existence of the Lutheran Church during its activity. This "proof" can exist in the form of a marker, plaque, tablet, or website. If a sign no longer exists for a former Lutheran Church, the documented proof of its former activity will override the requirement for an image of the church sign.

Name your waymark as follows:
Name - City, State for inside the US and
Name - City, Country for outside the US
Examples:
Grace Lutheran Church - Arlington, TX
Resurrection Lutheran Church - Cambridge, England
Evangelische Kirche im Rheinland - Düsseldorf, Germany
Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
