Expanded Description:

This category lists overnight accommodations which are similar in style to cottages or cabins, but are multi-unit facilities and provide similar services of a hotel. These facilities are sometimes attached to acreages or resorts; and usually located near areas with attractions such as lakes, skiing, hiking, biking, wilderness activities, golfing, forest reserves, etc.; however there are some located in remote areas providing the ultimate in a relaxed vacation. They can be located in the mountains, deserts, grasslands, and even on ocean and lake shores. The key words to focus on before submitting a potential lodge are 'rustic' and country setting'.

Unaccepted waymarks:
- Inner-city, or run-down locations will not be accepted.
- Normal hotels and motels which have the word "lodge" in the name just to make the normal hotel sound different than what it really is.
- Permanently closed locations (exception are facilities that closed after the waymark has been submitted may remain listed in the category for historical purposes or if there is question if the closed facility may be re-opened under new management. This is decided on a case by case basis between the waymark owner and group officers.)
- Hostels
- Chalets, cottages, and cabins as singe units should not be listed here, but those can be listed in the Chalet, Cottage, and Cabin Style Lodging category.

Some modern style lodges will be accepted since it is difficult to avoid contemporary styles with the budget constrains of newer structures. Here is an example of an acceptable contemporary style lodge:

Instructions for Posting a Lodge-Style Accommodations Waymark:

Please provide a thorough description of the facility to give people an opportunity for an informed decision of where they might like to stay.
1. Must have a country, rustic, Swiss alpine, mountain, or wilderness type theme.
2. Located in nice areas which provide a getaway or vacation style atmosphere.
3. Restricted to multi-unit facilities of 2 or more units permanently joined together.
4. Facilities, grounds, and surrounding demographics must be in good, clean condition.
5. A lodging facility which also has single unit cabins on the premises may be listed here, but you should also waymark the single unit cabins in the Chalet, Cottage, and Cabin Style Lodging category. A chalet with more than one unit may be listed here since multi-unit chalets are usually very similar to lodges.
6. May be located in busy, small, vacation towns. This is acceptable as long as the style and intention of the facility is to provide the atmosphere mentioned above.
7. May be adjacent to a regular hotel/motel.
8. Certain bed and breakfasts are accepted here as long as they meet the above mentioned requirements; however, bed and breakfasts should also be listed in the Bed and Breakfast category.
9. Certain hotels which do not advertise as being a lodge, but meet the style, spirit, and intent of this category are accepted.

Photograph requirements:
At least two non-copyrighted photographs must be submitted, but more are preferred:
10. Main lodge exterior front(required and set as default image).
11. Surrounding area photo (required).
12. More surrounding area photos (optional, but would help).
13. Photos of the lodge grounds (optional).
14. Interior photo of a room (optional).
15. Extras such as pools, meeting rooms, restaurants, etc. (optional).
16. Playgrounds, fire pits, rivers, lakes, ponds, pavilions, etc. (optional).

Naming:
The waymark name must be the name of the facility, city, and state/province/country. The location portion of the name should be separated by a semicolon. Properly listing the location makes waymark searches easier to find. For instance: a lodge called "Mountain Resort Lodge" located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado should read "Mountain Resort Lodge; Oro City, CO".

While most of the variables are not required to be filled in, it is important to obtain as much information as possible to help others determine if they want to visit this location. Usually calling the facility will easily yield most of the information.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:

Please submit a photo(s) taken by you of your visit to the location (non-copyrighted photos only). GPS photos are also accepted with the location in the background, and old vacation photos are accepted. Additional pictures are appreciated of the area and facility to help others identify if this is the kind of place they want to stay. If you are not able to provide a photo, then please describe your visit or give a story about the visit

Notify the waymark owner of any changes in the status of the facility to ensure the waymark description is kept current. This may include changes in rates, area attractions, renovations, additions to facilities, increased lodging restrictions, etc.

If you visit and find the facility is closed permanently, notify both the group officers and waymark owner of the change. We will then update the waymark description and name to include the words "Closed permanently", and may consider the waymark to be archived.
