State/Provincial Parks
Managed By: Icon Here State Recreation
Description:
This category is for marking state or provincial parks (or the equivalent in your neck of the woods) and listing the activities that the park is good for - hiking, camping, fishing, bird watching, etc.
Expanded Description:
This category is to expand the catalogue of park areas at the state level.

Parks for this category must be governed at the State/Provincial level as there are already categories for Municipal Parks and National Parks. State parks are designated and specified on state run websites. If you find a park that's not listed on a state web site, try one or the other park categories.

Approved parks include designated State Parks (SP), State Beaches (SB), State Historical Parks (SHP), State Recreation Areas (SRA). State Forests are usually managed by other land management branches of government and are usually not considered parks by states (although there are exceptions).

The following is a table of US state government websites listing their state parks. States seem to reorganize their websites and these links could need updating in the future. Use this table to find state parks and get links to specific parks for your waymarks. If a state link becomes unusable, please notify us and we'll find the new state website.

The following is a table of Canadian province government websites listing their provincial parks. Provinces seem to reorganize their websites and these links could need updating in the future. Use this table to find provincial parks and get links to specific parks for your waymarks. If a provincial link becomes unusable, please notify us and we'll find the new provincial website.

NOTE: Friends of Parks and other such non-government sites are not acceptable in the Link to Park. Those can be placed in the Long Description.

Regarding other countries: It can be difficult to translate State and Provincial Parks in other countries which may be subdivided into differently named entities. Sometimes parks may even have "National" in their name, though it is more of a regional or local designation and they will not be listed at the National Park level. Acceptance will be determined by the government reference site supplied in the waymark.

In 1923, the Texas State Legislature directed the State Parks Board to investigate the Davis Mountains region. However, Davis Mountains State Park wasn’t established until 1933 with 560 acres largely donated by local landowners.
